Nigel recently had the opportunity to deliver a health and safety session for Freemen’s School as part of an inset day. The aim was to engage an audience of teachers, support team and others in the how and why of H&S in a school environment. Starting with exploring why students might not hand in homework and moving on to exploring why people, of all ages, might take risks and behave unsafely, the session concluded with a quick explanation of why we sometimes ignore even obviously unsafe conditions. The session was very well received with the Deputy Head, Stuart Batchelor commenting: “Nigel led an hour’s whole-school health and safety training that was entertaining and informative in equal measure. Most people dread training on this subject, but he brought it to life and showed staff how health and safety is relevant to everyone’s job and is something to be embraced rather than shunned.”
